  • Who can use this form

    This form can be completed by applicants who wish to apply for a rates remission under the Rates Remission Policy. This includes the following categories:

    • Community Housing/Papakainga
    • Council initiated Zone Changes
    • Dwelling Affected by Natural Disaster
    • Excess Metered Water
    • Low Valued Properties
    • Non-Contiguous Rating Units
    • Sports, Recreation or Community Facilities
    • Wastewater Charges

    To apply for a remission in any of the categories listed above, click the "Next" button below and start entering your details. If you want to apply for Rates Penalty remissions, please click here, as this requires a different form.

    Applications must be made prior to 31 December for previous applicants or 31 May for new applicants.
  • Required Documentation

    For Registered Community Housing Providers making an application, you will need to quote your CHP number or upload the following document in support of your application:

    • A current certificate of registration as a registered Community Housing Provider with the Community Housing Regulatory Authority

    For Papakāinga making an application, you will need to quote your CHP number or upload the following documents in support of your application:

    • A current certificate of registration as a registered Community Housing Provider with the Community Housing Regulatory Authority or;
    • Evidence of formal governance structure that demonstrates characteristics similar to a registered Community Housing Provider eligibility criteria, and;
    • Evidence that the property for which rates remission is sought is used for occupancy of multiple-owned allotments by Māori landowners and is neither vacant nor commercial property.

  • Please note: If this is your second application within a five year period, the first 1,000m3 of the leak will be charged at the full rate and the balance charged at 6% of the water rate.

    This application is made under Council’s Policy on Remission of Rates on Low Valued Properties. Applications must be made by 31 May.

  • This application is made under Council’s Policy on Remission of Uniform Charges on Non-Contiguous Rating

    *Non-contiguous means two or more properties not adjacent to each other. If your properties are adjacent, please complete the Property Rates Information form – Rating Units in Common Ownership.

We collect your personal information to assess the suitability of your remission application, and if successful we will apply the remission directly to your rates account.

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.
